I see some sales letters that are up to 10 pages long. Very few people will read 10 pages of any e-mail sales letter, so I would suggest you keep them short. I usually like my letters to be a little less than a page long. A long e-mail sales letter also gives the reader too much information. I think it is best to always keep the reader curious, and a short e-mail sales letter is a great way to do that. This rule only seems to apply to sales letters in email. The headline of your e-mail is extremely important. After someone opens up your e-mail, this will be the first thing they see. You need a headline that really pulls them in. When I write a headline, I think of something that the reader will think to him or herself: "Wow!, I have got to read this. If I don't read this, I'll always wonder what this e-mail was about."

The subject line of your e-mail is also extremely important. This is the very first thing your reader will see. You have two choices when it comes to writing your subject line. Choice #1 You can use the honest approach and say something like "Find out how to boost your business."

or Choice #2 You can be a little bit deceptive and say something like "Hi, this is for you" With Choice #1 the reader knows it's a commercial advertisement and can delete it before reading it. But the reader often appreciates the ability to know if it's and ad before reading it. But with Choice #2 the reader is almost forced to open the e-mail and read it because there is a small chance that the e-mail is from a friend or business associate. So Choice #2 gets the reader to open the e-mail, but it can also make a few people a little angry that you tricked them into opening the e-mail. I have to confess though, I like using the sneaky approach of Choice #2 the best.

Now as you can see by the above example of a teaser letter, or first letter, there is no website address listed. You can see that the most important part of the above letter is at the end. The most important part of any teaser letter is the last line that says: "For complete details about this offer, please reply to this email with the words "More Info" in the subject line." Now you may be asking what should you use as your return email address in your teaser letter. Just go sign up for any free email box. You may wish to sign up with several free email boxes. After all, they're free! After you bulk email out your teaser letter, you will have plenty of emails in your box from people that say "More Info" in the subject line. And of course, you will have some emails from people complaining about your letter. So it's obvious that you reply only to the people that followed your directions, and put "More Info" in the subject line of their reply. And don't send the complainers anything. You may wish to add the complainers to your remove list so that you don't mail to them again. How do you reply to the nice people who put "More Info" in the subject line?
